Although it is technically possible to reach El Calafate by bus, it is certainly an exhausting trip. You first need to travel 36 hours to Rio Gallegos, in the Southern province of Santa Cruz. And once there catch a 3 ½ hours long connection to El Calafate.

From Bariloche
Aerolineas Argentinas operates a daily flight from Bariloche to El Calafate. The flight takes only 1½ hour and is probably the best option to travel between these two cities. Given the poor road conditions, there is no regular bus service between Bariloche and El Calafate. Some local tourism companies offer a special transport service during summer season (November to March), but at a much higher cost than regular bus services.

From Ushuaia
Aerolineas Argentinas offers daily connections between Ushuaia and El Calafate.
If you prefer ground transportation, you can take a ferry from Ushuaia to Punta Arenas, in Chile, and there catch a bus to El Calafate (about 5 hours drive).
