This cute Andean town is located at the shore of the Lacar Lake, in the province of Neuquén and is an absolute
must for tourists looking forward to being in contact with wonderful nature in an uncontaminated environment.
The two main attractions concerning San Martin de los Andes are the Lanín National Park and the Seven Lakes Corridor, that runs along the route 234 and includes the lakes Lácar, Machónico, Falkner, Villarino, Escondido, Correntoso, Espejo y Nahuel Huapi.
Volcano Lanin
The Lanín volcano (12,390 ft) dominates the view within the Lanín National Park. This dormant volcano attracts thousands of climbing aficionados every year, who are encouraged by its relative accessibility and the wonderful views of the Andes waiting at the top.
San Martin de los Andes is also a popular skiing destination in winter, with thousand of tourists arriving to enjoy the snow at the modern and upscale Chapelco ski resort.
Although a rather small city, San Martin de los Andes has seen incredible growth in the last decades and possess outstanding tourist facilities, an international airport (Chapelco), excellent access by road and communications with both northern and southern popular tourist destinations, which makes it a popular starting point for many trips in this Patagonian area.
