Esteros del Iberá

Don't let yourself get fooled by the usual description of Esteros del Iberá as the biggest marsh waters of South America. Although some areas of this region might technically fit the definition of "swamp", a more accurate description is that of a wonderful crystalline water mirror that spreads over 8078 square miles, and that is home to a unique combination of endangered animal species and rare vegetation.
The Esteros del Iberá have long gathered the attention of the international scientific community, who are attracted by -and meticulously study- its unique biodiversity. Photographers as well as sport-fishers are also regular visitors to the Esteros, and its increasing popularity as a destination for ecological tourism resulted in the creation of new lodging facilities that ensure a comfortable stay and easy access to wildlife watching tours.

Cayman Yacare
A visit to the Esteros del Iberá, typically revolves around boat trips on massive surfaces of still-water during which you can expect to encounter plenty of wild animals such as black cayman yacarés, caraya monkeys, carpinchos, marsh deers and all kinds of birds species. Usually the boat driver will get the boat close to the shore in order to get a closer look to the animals…and better pictures!

Fishing Dorado
Horse-back riding excursions as well as fishing are also popular activities in this region. Especially, the Dorado fishing is quite popular and attracts aficionados from all over the world.
Fishes of up to 50kg have been caught in this region, which -according to current regulations- are then returned alive to the water.
In sum, a visit to the Esteros del Iberá means a close encounter with nature in its most pure state. An experience of a lifetime that not many places in the world can replicate!
