Peninsula Valdes Region - Whale
Puerto Madryn is the destination of choice during winter months
(June to August), where Franca whales come to this region to breed and give birth. This amazing spectacle takes place in Peninsula de Valdes area (declared World Heritage Site in 1999), but Puerto Madryn is usually the city that tourists choose as a base point for their whale watching trips.

Peninsula Valdes Region - Diving
Puerto Madryn is also a popular diving destination, with thousands of artificial reefs and several abandoned ships as well as sea lions and cold water vegetation and fauna that create an unforgettable experience for beginners as well as experienced divers.

Magellan Penguins also feel at home in Patagonia. They come at the beginning of spring (September-October) and stay until March, but the best time to visit

Peninsula Valdes Region - Penguins
is around November, when the babies are born. The biggest penguin colony in Patagonia is in Punta Tombo, 69 miles south of Puerto Madryn.
Eastern Patagonia is one of the few places in the world were large colonies of penguins and sea lions can be appreciated in their natural environment. It is important to understand that these animals can be observed only from a respectful distance and they should not be touched or disturbed in any way.
