Getting to Buenos Aires
By Air
The international gateway to Buenos Aires –and often to the whole of Argentina- is the "Ministro Pistarini" Airport, a.k.a. "Ezeiza" (EZE). Most international airlines have daily connections to Buenos Aires, with an average flight time of 10 hours to US and 13 hours to Europe.
The airport is located in a suburban neighbourhood (also called Ezeiza), 35km (22 miles) west of downtown.
Transportation to downtown – Buenos Aires’ most popular and attractive lodging location- is available through taxi (ca. 60 pesos) or shuttle bus (25 pesos).
Although a regular city bus (Line 86) runs from the Airport to downtown for as little as a 5 pesos ticket (ca. $1,6), the drive takes literally forever and the seats are rather uncomfortable –especially after a 12 hour flight!.
When getting a taxi at the airport, make sure to stick to the authorized companies that have visible stands near the exit gate, such as Manuel Tienda León or Taxi Ezeiza.
It is also a good idea to keep their bill or ask them for a business card, in order to call them to pick you up for your return trip. They are very aware of the different routes to the airport and will make sure you catch your plane back home on time!
By Sea
Buenos Aires has also become a popular cruise ship destination, both as an interesting stop (specially for shopping) on South American cruises, or as the starting point for unforgettable trips to Antarctica.
Also, if you plan to visit Uruguay before heading to Argentina, consider taking a 1 hour Ferry across the Rio de la Plata. You can enjoy the Duty Free Shop on board and then arrive right at the heart of Buenos Aires downtown.
By Ground
Buenos Aires offers outstanding bus connections with the rest of Argentina and with all neighbouring countries. The main train and bus stations are located in the Retiro neighbourhood [

] , 5 minutes drive from downtown. However, remember that distances are a big issue in Argentina, and a trip from Bolivia or Chile to Buenos Aires will take no less than 15 to 20 hours.
On the other hand, long-distance bus tickets are relatively cheap (compared to plane tickets) and many companies offer a premium service including really comfortable, totally reclinable “bed-seats”, full meal service (including wine!), music and stewardesses for a quite affordable price.
