The resting place of Evita Perón

Recoleta Cemetery, located in the heart of same-name upscale
neighborhood, is one of the most popular tourist attractions in
Buenos Aires. Although many tourists are attracted by the possibility of
visiting Evita Perón's final resting place, the rest of the cemetery is
definitely also worth a visit.

This almost 14,000 acres big cemetery features hundreds of
wonderful sculptures and architectural pieces adorning the final resting place of

many of Argentina's wealthiest and most famous families and personalities, including independence patriots, presidents, military men, scientists and artists.
From beautiful angels guarding the mausoleums to life-size sculptures of the buried, Recoleta cemetery actually resembles a wonderful open air museum. In fact, several mausoleums carry the signature of renowned architects and more than 70 were declared National Historic Heritage.

As mentioned before, the most visited mausoleum is the one of Eva Duarte de Perón, better known all over the world as Evita. She was buried here in 1976, at the Duarte Family vault, which she shares with her mother and sisters.
The cemetery can be visited free-of charge everyday and free guided tours are also offered regularly.
